‖n. [ NL., fr. Gr. 'ana` up + xa`ris grace. ] (Bot.) A fresh-water weed of the frog's-bit family (Hydrocharidaceae), native to America. Transferred to England it became an obstruction to navigation. Called also waterweed and water thyme. [ 1913 Webster ]

n.; pl. Cantharides [ L., a kind of beetle, esp. the Spanish fly, Gr. kanqari`s. ] (Zool.) A beetle (Lytta vesicatoria, syn. Cantharis vesicatoria), having an elongated cylindrical body of a brilliant green color, and a nauseous odor; the blister fly or blister beetle, of the apothecary; -- also called Spanish fly.
