Metathesis \Me*tath"e*sis\, n.; pl. {Metatheses}. [L., fr. Gr.
meta`qesis, fr. metatiqe`nai to place differently, to

1. (Gram.) Transposition, as of the letters or syllables of a
word; as, pistris for pristis; meagre for meager.
